Sound Familiar?

Why supervisors struggle and what's holding your maintenance teams back.

1

Supervisors aren't operating from a documented, repeatable supervisory process.

2

They're pulled into administrative or planning tasks instead of leading teams.

3

There's little structured coaching or leadership training available.

4

Maintenance supervision is not recognized as a strategic leadership role.

5

Informal knowledge and outdated practices drive decisions.

Let's put those challenges behind you.

We have helped maintenance supervisors across industries move from firefighting confusion to strategic confidence. It's a transformation.

  • An opportunity to assess and improve your execution of core supervisory tasks
  • Guidance from experienced coaches with deep industry experience
  • Better coordination and efficiency in work execution
  • Recognition and respect for the supervisory role
  • A nationally recognized certification for career advancement

*Flow has been updated and length is 12 weeks not 14 as stated in the video above.

Why It Works

Designed by Supervisors, for Supervisors.

Boost Supervisor Knowledge & Skills

Our goal is to improve knowledge, and actual job-focused performance. This certification WILL boost confidence and capability for Maintenance Supervisors.

OTJ Application

This certification is designed around hands-on, real world application of in-field exercises supported by individual coaching sessions. You will be performing tasks related to YOUR team that will be reviewed one-on-one with your coach.

Attend Remotely

Supervisors will experience the certification development pathway remotely in a Wave (a group of 6 students), which will be led by a Marshall Institute coach. The weekly time commitment ranges from 1-12 hours.

Coach-led

Each Wave is supported by a Marshall Institute coach. Their role is to provide guidance, feedback and growth opportunities to each participant during the knowledge modules and application exercises. The coach will lead group and individual coaching sessions.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions

How does certification work?
The pathway consists of 3 components: educational modules, application practice, and examination. To become an MI-CMS you must complete all knowledge modules and tests, meet all criteria for the application exercises, and pass two final exams (one application, one knowledge).
What is a Wave?
A Wave is a group of students going through the certification pathway together, led by a coach and usually consisting of around 6 students. Each Wave is assigned a specific day of the week. Both your individual and group coaching sessions take place on that day, so you can plan around a predictable weekly rhythm throughout the cohort.
How long is the certification pathway?
The pathway consists of 12 active weeks. Chronological duration may vary by a few weeks if holidays fall during the pathway.
How many hours per week do I need to commit?
The weekly commitment ranges from 1 to 12 hours: 1–2 hours of scheduled meetings, 1–2 hours of self-paced training, 1–3 hours of on-the-job activities, and 2–12 hours of exam prep near the end. Many activities tie directly to your daily supervisory work, so some certification time doubles as work time.
What if there's a holiday week during the Wave?
We typically avoid holiday weeks and don't require learning, exercises, or homework during them. Your coach will communicate holiday weeks.
Can I just take the exams?
No. This is not an ordinary credential. We don't just verify current knowledge; the certification provides a growth pathway to deepen knowledge and competency before verifying you with exams.
What are the certification requirements?
We don't take the title lightly and don't guarantee all students reach it. To earn it you must: complete all mandatory courses and knowledge checks, pass all knowledge tests, meet the application exercise criteria, make up any missed coaching sessions, not fall more than 3 weeks behind, and pass the two certification exams.
